About: An unconventional table that combines 2 materials; steel and (solid)wood. 2.5mm sheet metal with a powder-coating finish forms the basis of the table. The top can (optional) be finished with a layer of 2.5mm semi-solid wood. Together with the option of legs in solid wood, this creates a total of 4 possible combinations. The table has an industrial feel yet it also has the refined craftsmanship and elegant finish traditionally associated with Arco. The powder coating and the layer of semi-solid wood both make the table extremely practical for daily use and suitable for both residential and business environments.

About: This furniture series explores new ways of joining wood using unconventional fixings. Solid panels are connected using plastic extrusions or injection moulded plugs that snap into groves and holes creating a system that can be easily assembled. The industrial connectors are uniform whilst the wood can be tailored to size, pattern and shape making a wide range of configurations possible.

About: A candle holder made of silicon. The flexibility of the material allows you to simply insert candles of various diameters without the necessity to cut them to size. Guaranteed they will stand upright first time. A weight in the bottom provides the necessary stability.

About: If You Could Collaborate is the fourth annual If You Could exhibition. Aiming to provide a platform for the finest creatives from all over the world to question their conventional working methods and outcomes. The contributors have been challenged to produce something a little unexpected, by working with a partner of their choosing from any discipline, profession or background. There is no brief to answer, or format to honour – the only limit being the enterprise and imagination of the artists involved, and a liberal 12 month deadline. Below are all of the pairings, and their outcomes.

Interested in the playful nature of his creations, van Ast's functionally aware pieces look to make the audience think carefully about how they interpret his objects. Bringing in designer Damien Poulain to help make a statement about the fences that were erected for the new East London Underground line that sit between their studios, the pair have produced a large-scale sculptural piece exploring 2 and 3-dimentional geometry.

Jorre van Ast studied Industrial Product Design at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. After two years at industrial design studio Flex in the Netherlands he continued his studies at the Royal College of Art in London, graduating from the Design Products course in 2006.

Straight after leaving RCA van Ast started working as independent products designer, sharing a collective studio in North London, know as OKAYstudio www.okaystudio.org. OKAY studio is not an organised company or brand. Its members do not strictly design together nor necessarily even work together. They were brought together by a simple common goal to share a space in which there creativity can flourish and build upon each others knowledge and skills.

In 2007 van Ast started working for Arco www.arco.nl running the design and development studio. Since 2009 he works for Arco as Creative Director.

Collections Van Ast's work is part of MoMa's permanent Design & Architecture collection in New York.
